I’m sure we’ve all seen digitally altered images newspaper editors use for attention-grabbing effect.
However dubious the satire or the concept is, I’m happy for newspapers to create engaging and highly focused material – after all, it helps crystallize the nub of the story.
But is this kind of childish ridicule appropriate? I certainly have a problem when the image blurs the lines between reality and concoction.
As an advertising professional, I understand the power of images to create lasting impressions in the mind of the viewer. I know that words don’t carry the same long-lasting weight. Yes, it’s so over-the-top that it’s ridiculous, but think of this; would you be happy if you were presented in such a way?
